Finally, YouTube is always a valuable option because that is where the show originated, and the channel is still being updated! Plus, it is free!
The CoComelon network is designed for young preschoolers and helps them learn things like their letters, numbers, colors, and more with preschool life lessons and wonderful nursery rhymes. There are plenty of opportunities for parents and children to interact together and also sing along to some of the hottest nursery rhymes.
CoComelon is a very popular YouTube channel that is designed for children by parents, and it was originally made by the founder of the channel for their children. The YouTube channel is still receiving updates to this day, and you can find countless songs and lessons there as well… and also on your FireStick once you get it installed!
Additionally, if your child just can’t get enough of CoComelon content, the CoComelon brand has partnered with brands like Netflix, Hulu, and of course, Amazon to give exclusive episodes to their subscribers. So if you have any of those services in your home, you can use them to get even more content!
What Other Shows Are Great For Kids?
CoComelon is a great show with a lot of content to offer, but the episodes are, at most, 2-3 minutes long. Granted, your children’s attention span might be the same length of time, but if you want to watch more TV with your child, then there are a lot of other channels you can watch with the FireStick!
ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes
Much like CoComelon, ChuChu TV started as an educational YouTube channel, which has now become a massive enterprise with several smaller channels under its banner. That means that there are a lot of different pieces of content, from upbeat songs to interesting and colorful animations for your child to get involved with!
Now, there are several variants of the ChuChu TV app on the internet, many of them aimed at local users, such as those in India or in Spanish-speaking countries. The one that you will be looking at is the ChuChu TV Nursery Rhymes app.
You can download this app straight from FireStick, using the same steps as you used for CoComelon, and with thousands of video pieces of content, you will be good to go!
If your toddler is musically inclined, then LooLoo kids is another collection of edutainment that was born from a YouTube channel. The channel has a collection of smaller channels with it, providing a much greater cast of characters and content, including nursery rhymes, fairy tales, investigation of the world, and musical songs.
Unlike CoComelon, the LooLoo kids application is subscription based. If you have Amazon Prime and are using your FireStick to watch LooLoo kids, then you can watch content at $0.99 per episode and $19.99 per season. Other streaming services offer the application as well, such as Netflix and Apple TV+, or you can find select episodes on YouTube and other free TV services.
How TV Can Impact Kids
Can CoComelon Help Your Child?
You might wonder if all this TV watching is actually helping your child learn, or if you are doing more harm than good by exposing them to television at a very young age. Screen time can be very helpful if you choose to watch with young children and actively engage with them and with the content.
As tempting as it might be to let the television parent for a bit, you should watch the show, get excited about it, and encourage your children to interact with the content and keep on learning. Young children learn from back-and-forth interactions, so if you are constantly asking questions about the content and answering their questions, you will be able to help them out.
You will also be able to help your child as they look at the situations in these shows. If someone in the show is treating another person badly or a problem presents itself for the characters, then pause the video and ask your child what they would do in the situation or how they would solve the problem.
Television shouldn’t be a passive screen that you and your children are just watching, but should rather be a tool for active learning and discovery that you both are engaging with.
Does Background Noise Affect Children?
Of course, you can’t watch TV all the time, so eventually, you are going to have child-friendly TV on a loop while you and your child do something else. Background noise can provide a lot of benefits to adults, but how does it affect young children?
Well, if the background noise is too loud, it can cause distraction and discomfort for young children and anyone else in the room, so make sure to keep the television at a low volume. Especially because young children haven’t been given the skills to separate the noises they should be listening to and the noises that they can tune out.
If you are speaking and the television noise is also speech, then your child can get confused, and it can even impair their learning of new words.
So if you have the television on in the background, try to keep it low volume and make sure that the activity that you and your child are doing is the main thing that holds their attention. Or you can play things like white noise and soft instrumental music while you are doing something else, as this can actually improve your child’s focus.
How Much TV Time Is Too Much?
Regardless of your child’s age, there’s a reason why most CoComelon episodes are 2-3 minutes long (plus, your young child shouldn’t learn the concept of binge-watching until much later). For young children, around 1-2 hours of screen time is often more than enough for them, and you should make it a family activity.
This will gradually show your child that watching television is an event, and not just something you while away the hours with. Instead, the family gathers around the television and talks about what they watched.
